Article Co-authored by Institute Manager Anna Rupert Wins Award in Ireland

An article co-authored by Institute manager, Anna Rupert, has been awarded the Postgraduate Student Project Prize 2023 from the Irish Association of Speech Language Therapists. Anna co-authored the article with two colleagues in Ireland, Maria Lotty, and Norma O’Leary who was a postgraduate student at the time. The article entitled, “Understanding the why: the integration of trauma-informed care into speech and language therapy practice,” was published last year in the peer-reviewed academic journal, “Advances in Communication and Swallowing”, which is the official journal of the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists. The article highlights the need to integrate Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) into the practice of Speech and Language Therapy. Noting the absence of clear guidelines in the field, the authors argue that the profession needs a commitment to continuous research into communication-specific best practices of TIC in order to best support clients.
