Mental health is the most critical issue facing children today.
Did you know that 1 in 5 children under the age of 18 suffers from a diagnosed mental health illness? Even a two-year-old can suffer from mental health issues compromising their ability to grow and thrive. Yet, children’s mental health is often overlooked.
Left untreated, these issues can become even more complex and harder to overcome. They can lead to changes in behaviour, difficulty concentrating, avoidance of school and friends, self-medication, self-harm, intense feelings of despair – and far too often, suicide.
Fortunately, there’s hope.
When a child struggling with their mental health is diagnosed and treated early, they are far more likely to enjoy a positive childhood and fulfilling future. Prevention, early identification and intervention have a direct impact on a child’s overall health, the quality of family life, the safety of our schools and streets, our economic prospects as a society, and the future costs of health and correctional services.
It is why the George Hull Centre is so vital to the community.
Why We Need Your Support
Demand for children’s mental health services is on the rise. Long waitlists are devastatingly common. The lack of sufficient government funding and resources means it takes longer for countless children and their families to receive the help they so desperately require. Children who are struggling cannot wait. They need help now.
How will your donation make an impact?
Your donation goes directly to essential programs and to the expansion of services that enable children suffering with mental health issues to develop resilience, confidence, self-understanding, coping skills and life strategies. Gifts of any size to the George Hull Centre help reduce waitlists and increase the number of children and families we can help, when they need it.
Most importantly, your gift will increase a child’s chance at a fulfilling childhood and to develop into healthy, confident adults.
