Family Gift Match 2023 | FAQs

Why are you  asking for gift card donations for families again this year?

To allow Moms, Dads, and caregivers the joy of selecting gifts for their own children and families.

What is the due date for donations?

Friday, December 1, 2023. This provides enough time for families to use their gift cards to buy gifts and necessities before the holidays.

How do I get my gift cards to the George Hull Centre?

Please deliver your gift cards to Attention Rae Masche, 81 The East Mall, 3rd Floor, Etobicoke, ON M8Z 5W3. If you have any questions, please contact us at FamilyGiftMatch@georgehull.on.ca

Can I make a monetary donation instead of buying gift cards?

Yes, however, not directly to the Family Gift Match. You can make a monetary donation to the Centre’s general funds which will be used to run essential mental health programming for children and families.

Am I expected to get every card on my matched family’s list?

No, the form we received back from the family is a “wish list”. Please do not feel that you need to purchase everything on their list. Give according to whatever fits your donation budget. You can partner with others in your social circle and use connections for discounts to increase your impact.

What is the average donation amount?

There is no average donation amount. Families come in all sizes – from the single mom with one child to a larger family unit with 4 or 5 children. We try to match the larger families with donors who are sharing the donation experience. For example, a company or a few friends who have decided to purchase items together for a larger family unit. Whatever amount is given, the matched family will be most appreciative.

Why are there gift cards for items and/or stores that go beyond the necessities?

It is particularly important to have adequate technology during these times so that children can access school or supportive services like therapy. Technology is expensive and our families do not have the resources to purchase it. In addition, poverty creates feelings of shame. Having nice clothes and other things helps children feel more normal and a little less self-conscious.

Will I receive any information about how family used my donation?

To respect their confidentiality, we do not share information about specific families. However, stay tuned in the New Year to learn about the positive impact your donations have had on our families and what the Family Gift Match program meant to them.

Do I get a tax receipt?

As a children’s mental health agency we are unable to give tax receipts for gift cards.
